and home to the Big Five.
The 55 000 hectares of Pilanesberg National Park is home to some 12 000 mammals and the park is now one of the privileged game reserves that provide the Big 5 Experience (Leopard, Lion, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo) and over 350 species of birds.
The Pilanesberg National Park, is characterized by impressive volcanic mountain forms and rolling savannah grasslands 1300 million years old. These impressive features have created one of the most topographically diverse Reserves to be found in South Africa. The 55 000 hectares (132 000 acres) of Pilanesberg National Park are home to some 10 000 animals and the park is now one of the privileged reserves hosting the Big Five and 364 species of bird. A major reason for Pilanesberg’s diversity of animals is that it lies in the transition zone between the arid Kalahari in the west and the humid Lowveld of the Northwest Province. The seven different habitats at the Pilanesberg attract and cultivate prolific birdlife.

The day safari experience is structured to avoid the midday heat when wildlife activity and sightings are limited. It gives our guests the best opportunity to take advantage of the prime viewing hours of the late afternoon, sunset and early evening. It is at this time that the African Bush comes to life, when the nocturnal wildlife species such as lion, leopard and hyena become active in search of prey.
Our three hour late afternoon and Sunset Open Safari Game Drive is hosted by a qualified, armed National Parks Field Guide and Ranger, the vehicles are always in contact via radio with each other so you have a better chance of finding the mammals. Included in this safari is approximately half an hour of night game spotting with spotlights where you will have a chance to experience the nocturnal life.
The Game Viewer Vehicle/Trucks can accommodate 20 passengers comfortably and because this is a National Public Park, there is no off road driving allowed. However you still do go on the sand roads which your Ranger Knows extensively!
